Organization
The Black Hills Youth Football & Cheer League (BHYFL) provides a fun, organized, full contact tackle football and sideline cheer program for the youth of Rapid City, Western South Dakota and surrounding jurisdictions.

The League is an organization of individual associations throughout the region, bound together with common rules of conduct and play.  A Board of Representatives (Rules Board) decides the rules of the League.  Policies not affecting rules of play are decided by the Directors of the League. 

Terminology

 League Directors: Head of the BHYFL

Commissioner: Head of relevant association

Association Cheer Director: Head of cheerleading of relevant association

Association: A specific organization which plays under the umbrella of the BHYFL and is a member of the BHYFL bound by its rules and regulations.

Placement and divisions

Association placement is based upon the school grade (1st - 6th) of the upcoming year and physical address of the participant. 

Participants are placed in the division that reflects their school grade for the upcoming school year.  Teams compete, by division, during the regular season based upon a league managed schedule.

Mighty Mites (MM) 1st & 2nd grade

Junior Pee Wee (JPW) 3rd & 4th grade

Pee Wee (PW) 5th & 6th grade

What is included in the registration fee?

Registration fees pay for year round  league expenses to include, but not limited to the following: Equipment, field use, referees, insurance, printing, advertising, website & credit card processing, supplies, background checks, labor payroll, awards, gifts, storage and more.

Football

Each football participant will receive a helmet, shoulder pads and integrated practice pants to use during the season.  These items are to be returned at the end of the season.

Parents need to provide: mouth piece, rubber soled cleats and an athletic support.

Cheer

Cheer uniforms may be parents responsibility. Each association sets their own policy. Uniforms are sized by measurements taken for each participant. 

Extra Fees, Fundraising

***Each association holds fundraisers that will require each participant to partake. Fundraisers are chosen by the association.

*** Parents are asked to volunteer during the season in various areas.  Some associations do ask for a deposit for volunteer time, fundraising, jerseys/uniforms.  Each association sets their own policy.  

Practices 

Practices will start around the first week of August.  Each association sets their own practice schedule.  BHYFL allows a maximum of 3 practices in a week 2 hours per day
